Parliamentarians at Risk 2023 Report Launch

Parliamentarians at Risk 2023 Report Launch

APHR is organizing the 2023 Parliamentarians at Risk Report hybrid launch in Manila, the Philippines to highlight the threats and harassment against parliamentarians in carrying out their mandate throughout 2023. The launch will feature speakers representing countries covered in the report; the Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Malaysia.

Additionally, to be able to position itself strategically in addressing pressing democratic issues, a meeting among its members is being organized to understand the current human rights situation in the country and how APHR as a network of parliamentarians from the region can help advocate in addressing the issues.

Lastly, a visit to the Senate and the Congress will be arranged for visiting parliamentarians from outside the country.

Specifically, the objectives of the activities are to:

  1. Expose through different platforms the political threats and reprisals on MPs to advocate nationally, regionally, and internationally for an end of the attacks;
  2. To assess the current political, democracy, and human rights situation in the Philippines in order to mobilize and APHR’s advocacy strategy for the country and for and with its members; and
  3. To clearly identify short and long-term action points on what can be done collaboratively for civic space and democracy in the Philippines and the region, particularly in supporting and protecting parliamentarians’ work.
